About Descendants of John 'Buttermilk' Neely
Please sign in to see more. This web site is dedicated to my father, Daniel Ben Neely I who passed away in August of 2006.
Family and family heritage meant so very much to him. From my childhood, he imparted to me the importance of family. Although it is true that we are all family, the family of God, it is also true that we have all the gifts of many who have lived in the past and have bequeathed to us their traits and unspoken stories.
These few records attempt to give name to their existence and to further define those who now carry on those traits and stories.
Up through 2006 each year, the descendants of Oliver Carlisle Neely met on the second Saturday in August to celebrate the family. Other branches began to join our family gathering, and some other branches of the larger family--the John `Buttermilk` Neely family gather at other places, such as Pipestem State Park, GrandView State Park, and Hinton, WV to likewise celebrate their branches of this family.
David Neely, son of William Russell Neely; Chuck Neely, son of Charles Neely; and Florence Neely, wife of James Russell Neely, Jesse Neely, daughter of John Neely, as well as Winnie Case, descendant of Hannah Neely Gore, and Mason Neely, son of Oswald and Dale Neely, have all contributed many things to this process, both in genealogical data and in anecdotes and photos they have acquired. Anyone who reads this and has information to add or change is heartily encouraged to contact me. The objective is to create as true a document as can be done and to create a lineage legacy for future generations.
